Get Behind the 7 Sights ChallengeEye care professionals are urged to get behind Glaucoma Australia’s fundraising initiative, the 7 Sights Challenge, which returns in March 2023. The challenge encourages Australians to find, snap and share their favourite sights while raising funds to help take glaucoma blindness out of the picture. The 7 Sights Challenge asks Australians to walk, paddle, run, swim or ride – either on their own or as part of a team – and capture seven photos as a reminder that sight is precious. Glaucoma Australia CEO Richard Wylie says, “The 7 Sights Challenge is asking all Australians to join the mission to raise vital dollars for glaucoma research and patient support programs. “Anyone can develop glaucoma and the risk increases with age. By the age of 40, about one in 200 Australians will be diagnosed with glaucoma. “Our sight is incredibly precious but, all too often, people ignore it until something goes wrong. Australians have the power to save their sight by getting their eyes tested and raising funds for ground-breaking research, education, and support programs through campaigns such as the 7 Sights Challenge.”“ Our sight is incredibly precious but, all too often, people ignore it until something goes wrong”Glaucoma Australia ambassadors David Koch, co-host of Network Seven’s Sunrise and founder of Pinstripe Media, and Aussie music legend Kirk Pengilly are throwing their support behind the 7 Sights Challenge. Mr Koch had no symptoms when he was diagnosed with glaucoma three years ago. He’s encouraging Australian corporates to also take on the challenge and help fund glaucoma research and patient support. Mr Pengilly said the 7 Sights Challenge is an important reminder that your sight is key in living life to its fullest. “I may not have enjoyed the career I did without pioneering surgery on my eyes,” he says. “Vision loss is largely preventable through early detection, treatment adherence and by supporting the work of our Australian researchers in the fight against this insidious disease.” The 7 Sights Challenge is supported by Platinum Sponsor, Pinstripe Media, Gold Sponsor, mivision, and Silver Sponsors OPSM, Laubman & Pank and Specsavers.
