Chapter 8HeartthrobWho is the one person you would want on your deserted fantasy island? We ask ourselves this all the time, and I always imagine Mr. Jay teaching me to swing a ball into the blue skies.Sandy tells us of a dream she had the night before—she was a new poster girl, and her poster was a huge hoarding on the island. No points for guessing who was working on the poster.Rhea gushes about how she and the Andy “smooth swagger” would sway and swoon in a slow dance on the island.“Sandy! Were you dreaming of my beloved coz? Haha!” I tease her cheekily. Rhea laughs along.“Oh, come off it, Tin, I know why you wear mascara during PT,” says Sandy, crossly.I turn crimson—that is, as close to the color as my brown hue can become.“And you, Rhea,” Sandy continues, “those puppy eyes every time Andy ambles by.”Rhea blushes like a ripe tomato.“Hey, do you think there’s someone in Aunt Cee’s life?” Rhea asks suddenly, and if it was a ruse to change the topic, it worked.Sandy sits up. “Yes, I think so. Didn’t she speak about some handsome man in her life?”“But, her diaries have no references, sad to say. There are details of places she has visited, and the descriptions are so vivid, you feel as if you were there, but no personal mention of guys or heartthrobs in foreign lands,” I add.“Hmmm. I wonder why not?”We spend some time working up theories. Maybe she’s involved with a secret agent, maybe even a spy and could not reveal their names! Was it a prince who had sworn her to secrecy due to his obligations to his kingdom, (hey, we had seen a movie like that once) or maybe a poor artist whom she was secretly supporting?Aunt Cee never allows us into this part of her secret world, and Ma never lets out anything, except that one time, a long time ago, when she had sighed, “oh, she was heartbroken.” Then she had turned to me and chided, “Tina, you must not go prying into adult lives.”So, we continue with our guessing game. There really cannot be anything more intriguing than not knowing that special part of someone’s life … Was there someone in her life right now?
